Mertz vs Carnes
Red-Carpet Brawl 2 Recap: Aaron “This Is Going to Hurt” Mertz vs. Jenny Karnes
In a matchup filled with grit, heart, and purpose, two inspiring women took the ring to fight for mental health and community wellness.
Aaron “This Is Going to Hurt” Mertz, a stay-at-home mom of four from Clifton, Texas, fought for the Leha Family Foundation, with a mission rooted in her own journey. Caring for a child with severe autism, Aaron found in boxing a rare moment of personal clarity and peace. “It’s the easiest part of my day,” she said of training. “It’s where I can focus on myself, for once.”
Her opponent, Jenny Karnes, President and CEO of San Antonio Sports, stepped into the ring representing both Leha and her own nonprofit’s mission: improving community health through the power of sport. With a background as a two-sport college athlete, Jenny brought fierce energy and focus to the match. “It’s been harder than I ever imagined,” she said, “but so worth it.”
After three competitive rounds, Aaron Mertz was declared the winner by unanimous decision. In a post-fight interview, she praised her opponent’s strength and reflected on the meaning behind the moment: “I know what it’s like when people need a second chance.”
This fight was more than physical—it was personal. And both women showed up for something bigger than themselves.
